Computers are everywhere and prophesies made a decade ago have become true: “Artificial Technology is the future of mankind”. Complex data analysis is needed in every field now and AI is showing great potential.
According to zoom info, 23 percent businesses have adapted to AI technology with 54% of establishment at those companies stating that the technology has greatly boosted productivity. It’s predicted that the AI industry will expand upto $190 billion by 2025, covering entirely; from data analysis to customer experience.
If these businesses could be a symbol of innovation and take part in the race, what do you expect of PepsiCo the biggest food and beverages brand?
About the brand
The PepsiCo organization sells in 200+ countries and earned the annual worth of $64.7 billion last year, depicting its financial clout and infrastructure. Its obvious that it could throw the ball wherever it wants and has a smooth carpeted way to implement the technology it needs. Lets have a look at some instances where this smarty pants have already done it!
1- Snackbot
As clear from its name, This customer-facing application of AI has made its way around the University of the Pacific. Technically, it is an AI-powered delivery robot which delivers a range of snacks like potato chips, Sparkling water etc with no additional charges and to over 50 locations around the whole campus. The response from students has been overwhelming, and Pepsi has three to five of the machines operating at once.
2- Lays Manufacturing
Another place where Pepsi has decided to innovate using AI technology is in the manufacture of its most popular Frito-Lay’s potato chip subsidiary. The brand wanted to figure out a method to determine the texture of its chips avoiding the risk to handle or destroy them. Basic mechanism of its working is: a laser sensor array would bounce beams of light off the finished chips and then employed AI mechanism would process the sound feedback to decipher the snack food’s texture.
Senior Research and Development Engineer at PepsiCo, Shahmeer Mirza explains: “It’s a system that hits the chip with lasers, listens to the sound coming off them, and then uses that data to correlate the sound into texture. I realized I could combine the principles of machine learning with computer vision technology to develop more advanced sensors and process control schemes.”
To conclude:
We can see how PepsiCo has successfully mutated its DNA with AI technology. With many companies still deprived of this significant opportunity, industry giants brands are trail blazing and demonstrating how technology can be a game changer. As AI develops have to wait and see how many others follow Pepsi’s footsteps in the future.
